Speaking to MMA Fighting, Lopes said his current plan is to be the replacement fighter for the UFC featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria at UFC 308 in October.

If Holloway vs. Topuria goes ahead as planned, Lopes hopes to face Alex Volkanovski in December.

“If that doesn’t happen, we want to have the opportunity to fight [Alexander] Volkanovski in December”, said Lopes. “He doesn't like to wait and neither do I, so this could be a good fight. A lot can still happen, but I think the two most viable options for us right now are to be the replacement fighter in Abu Dhabi or to fight Volkanovski in December. The UFC is aware that I am for [UFC 308]So it depends on what you want to do.”

Volkanovski suffered a KO loss to Topuria at UFC 298 in February 2018.
