SAN ANTONIO – A man has been arrested in connection with a car crash on the West Side in late June that left a 23-year-old woman dead while driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The accident occurred on Friday, June 28, at 1:51 a.m. on Old Highway 90.

According to the affidavit, Ibarra was driving 116 mph in a 40 mph zone when his black Dodge Challenger crashed into the back of a Ford F350 pickup truck, causing the Charger to burst into flames. Ibarra was able to free himself from the car under his own power, but his passenger, identified as 23-year-old Alexandra Vargas, had to be pulled from the burning car by a bystander and a police officer.

Vargas suffered burns to her lower body and a broken arm and leg and later succumbed to her injuries at SAMMC. A blood draw at the hospital revealed that Ibarra's blood alcohol level was 0.166, more than twice the legal limit.

He was released from prison on $100,000 bail.
