Britain Covey on IR, Jack Stoll squad, John Ross on PS – NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Eagles made several changes to their roster on Tuesday afternoon following their 15-12 victory over the Saints on Sunday.

These three steps were related:

• WR Britain Covey was placed on the injured list

• TE Jack Stoll was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster

• WR John Ross was added to the practice squad to replace Stoll

Covey, 27, suffered a shoulder injury on Sunday in New Orleans and was ruled out during the game. He was seen leaving the locker room with his arm in a sling. Before leaving the game on Sunday, Covey had a nice 11-yard catch and was 7 of 34 passing this season.

While Covey played a more minor role on offense, he was the Eagles' primary punt returner for several seasons. After Covey left the game on Sunday, he was replaced as the Eagles' punt returner by rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean.

Now on the injured list, Covey will have to miss at least four games before he is eligible to play again this season.

With Covey placed on the injured list and the status of AJ Brown (hamstring) and Devonta Smith (concussion) uncertain, the Eagles have only two healthy receivers on their 53-man roster: Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson, so the experienced John Ross was brought back to the practice squad.

Ross, 28, was with the Eagles in training camp after earning a spot on the 90-man roster with a successful tryout in rookie camp. Ross was the 9th pick in the first round in 2017 but has not played a regular season game with the Giants since 2021.

Ross is the wide receiver on the Eagles' 17-man practice squad, along with Parris Campbell, Danny Gray, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Kyle Philips. Campbell has been ranked higher for each of the last two games and will likely be ranked higher again for the game against the Buccaneers.

There's a good chance the Eagles will promote both Campbell and Ross for their Week 4 game in Tampa, as they won't have to worry about promoting their third tight end again.

With the spot vacated by Covey's move to IR, the Eagles promoted Stoll to the 53-man roster. After EJ Jenkins began the season as the No. 3 tight end, Stoll passed him and was promoted for Week 3.

Stoll was the Eagles' No. 2 tight end for the past few years before being traded to the Giants this offseason, but he was released during final cuts and returned to Philly. Stoll is known for his blocking ability and played 13 snaps in New Orleans on Sunday, while Grant Calcaterra played 27 snaps as the TE2.
