Brie Garcia gives update on Nikki Garcia following split from Artem Chigvintsev

What else did the authorities say about the arrest of Artem Chigvintsev?

Wofford told NBC News that Chigvintsev was arrested in Yountville, California, but he did not disclose the exact location because the alleged victim expressed a desire for privacy.

As a result of that request, he added, the sheriff is also not releasing the name, gender or age of the alleged victim, nor the person's relationship to Chigvintsev. However, Wofford had this to say about the arrest.

“When someone is charged with domestic violence, it usually means there are visible injuries or credible eyewitnesses,” he told E! News. “Our officers had no problem arresting him for domestic violence.”

“Of course, that could change as more evidence comes to light,” Wofford continued, “but at the time of the arrest, officers believed this was a felony charge, not a misdemeanor.”

He also explained why victims in these cases might choose to keep personal information secret.

“Some victims may not feel comfortable sharing all the details when the suspect is arrested,” Wofford noted. “Some victims may feel embarrassed, threatened or afraid that the incident could affect their family. We need to give victims enough time and support to realize that we are there to help.”
