Teenager shot in road rage incident in Haltom City has died – police search for suspect

A 16-year-old who was hospitalized last week following a road rage shooting in Haltom City has died, police said Tuesday.

The teenager, whose identity police did not release, died Monday evening, according to investigators. He was shot between 4:15 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 in the 4400 block of East Belknap Street, police said. The shooting occurred as two vehicles traveling northeast from Bernice Street passed a traffic light at Layton Avenue, police said.

Police are now asking the public for help in locating the suspect vehicle and identifying its occupants at the time of the shooting. Police had previously said that someone in the suspect vehicle, a black 1999 Honda Accord, fired shots at the vehicle, hitting the teenager.

Police described the vehicle as having a gray hood and gray front right quarter panel and Texas license plate FNV9986. However, police said it was possible the suspects had altered or removed the license plate.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the police department at 817-222-7000 or email Detective Donovan Key at [email protected] or call 817-222-7034.

The police are also asking for help from people who have access to Recordings of Video cameras near the shooting.

According to the police, this was apparently an isolated incident. The victim and suspect probably did not know each other.
