Middle school student arrested in Riverside after posting criminal threats on social media – San Bernardino Sun

RIVERSIDE – A 13-year-old boy was booked into a Riverside County juvenile detention center on suspicion of making criminal threats on social media, police announced Tuesday.

According to Riverside police, a “school threat assessment and response” investigation was launched late Monday night after Central Middle School parents reported an Instagram post that showed a student with a possible firearm and a list of his classmates’ names.

Investigators searched the boy's apartment and found a toy gun. He was arrested and detained on suspicion of criminal threats and conspiracy.

Police said another student was expected to be arrested on suspicion of conspiracy.

Anyone with information regarding the threats is asked to contact School Resource Officer Ben Rodriguez at BRodriguezRiversideCA.gov or 951-826-5638.

Anyone who sees a post on social media indicating possible violence at Riverside schools is advised to call the Public Safety Communications Center's non-emergency number at 951-354-2007.

The arrest announced Tuesday was at least the sixth in a series of arrests for threatening schools in Riverside County this month.
