Kate Winslet reveals that the water in Titanic was only “waist-deep” in the “door scene”

Kate Winslet reveals an interesting fact about Titanic Door scene.

During a 92nd Street Y Q&A at a preview of their upcoming film lee On Monday, September 23, the infamous door moment from the 1997 film was brought up again in New York City.

For years there has been debate about whether Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack Dawson would have fit on the floating piece of balsa wood next to Winslet's Rose Dewitt Bukater after the ship sank.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz at the event on Monday, Winslet, 48, also revealed that the water was nowhere near as deep as it looked on screen, adding that it was very easy for her to get in and out of the pool to go to the bathroom during filming.

Winslet admitted that DiCaprio, 49, probably suffers from “post-traumatic stress disorder” because he's been asked so many times about the viral door moment. Of filming the scene, she said: “Well, that was a pretty odd tank… because to break the illusion, he was at waist height at the time.”

“So, at first I was periodically asking, 'Can I go pee for a minute?' And then I would get up, get off the door, walk to the edge of the tank, about 20 feet away, and literally have to swing my leg over and climb up and walk back to the door. It's horrible,” she added at the Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York.

“Anyway, yes. So it was waist high. Leo unfortunately got down on his knees. I shouldn't say it anyway, Jimmy Cameron will call me,” Winslet joked, because she might get a telling off from director James Cameron for spilling the film's secrets.

“The amazing thing about the edges of the pool was that it was an infinity pool. So there was a constant rushing of water and you could hear the constant sound of water.” The holidays The star continued, adding that in the “last 22 minutes” of the film, everyone is “completely captivated” “because you can hear this water sound the whole time.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Winslet recalled sneaking into a NYC movie theater to see Titanic for the first time with two friends.

“When the film premiered in London, I was really sick. I had a bad case of food poisoning and was actually in a hospital in London, really weird. And then when the film came out in the US, I was actually at a friend's funeral,” explained the British star.

“I mean, it's horrible to even think about it now. And of course I didn't want to miss that, so I kind of missed everything surrounding the release of . TitanicI don't know, is this the universe's way of protecting me or just reminding me to do the things that are important?” she added, describing it as “pretty weird” to be in a “packed theater” and watching the film like that.

Winslet's latest Titanic Comments come after she spoke with PORTER for an interview published in February in which she recalled the discomfort she felt about her fame after the release of the Oscar-winning love tragedy.

“I felt like I had to look a certain way or be a certain way, and because there was so much media interference at the time, my life was pretty uncomfortable,” Winslet said.

However, the Oscar winner stressed: “It is not a burden, none of it,” and added: “[Titanic] continues to bring great joy to people. The only time I think, 'Oh God, hide,' is when we're on a boat somewhere.”

Winslet's new film lee will be in cinemas on September 27th.
