Duluth man charged with 2nd degree assault in Sunday stabbing

A 24-year-old Duluth man has been charged with second-degree assault following a stabbing over the weekend. Authorities said Michael Connor Cordel Huisinger turned himself in to police. Huisinger was arraigned Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a report of a stabbing at approximately 2:56 a.m. in the 1100 block of W Michigan Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 35-year-old woman with a stab wound to her upper arm. The report states the victim was frantic and could not give officers any further details, saying she was stabbed while performing “rituals.”

The victim was later taken to a local hospital for treatment of two stab wounds to his arm.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness who lived nearby told officers she heard arguing coming from the M&H gas station. The witness told police she saw two people approach the alleged victim, “aggressive and belligerent.” Then the witness said the victim began screaming and running across the street.

Huisinger turned himself in to authorities just before 6 a.m. Sunday. He told authorities he and an ex-girlfriend were walking on Michigan Street when they sat down and had a loud argument. Huisinger told authorities the victim approached them with a long branch in his hand and pointed at him and his ex-girlfriend.

Huisinger told officers the victim swung at him with the stick. The complaint states that Huisinger grabbed the branch while pulling a knife from a sheath on his hip. He told officers he stabbed the victim in the arm.

The police found a knife at the crime scene.

The incident remains under investigation
