New Orleans Police Investigate Fatal Crash on I-610 West

A man has been arrested for Tuesday's fatal crash on I-610 west near Canal Boulevard that left a Department of Transportation traffic police driver dead. Louisiana State Police said Eric Anthony Jr., 23, was assisting the driver of a broken down 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche around 2 p.m. and parked his marked 2018 Dodge Ram MAP emergency vehicle on the right shoulder behind the Chevrolet. The Dodge had its hazard lights on, an illuminated sign on the roof of the car and traffic cones set up on the shoulder behind it while Anthony stood near the rear of the car retrieving equipment to work on the Chevrolet's flat tire. State Police said a 2020 Nissan Rogue, driven by Oscar G. Perez-Moran, 26, was westbound on I-610 near the Canal Blvd. exit. when it left the road and entered the right shoulder of the road, striking it. The Nissan struck the rear of the Dodge before spinning out and striking the Chevrolet. Anthony suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. According to LSP, the driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured and was not in the car at the time of the accident. Perez-Moran was arrested and is charged with negligent homicide. The investigation is ongoing.

According to Louisiana State Police, 23-year-old Eric Anthony Jr. assisted the driver of a broken-down 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche around 2 p.m. and parked his marked 2018 Dodge Ram MAP patrol vehicle on the right shoulder behind the Chevrolet.

The Dodge had its hazard lights on, an illuminated sign on the roof of the car, and traffic cones on the shoulder behind it while Anthony stood at the back of the car getting equipment to repair the Chevrolet's flat tire.

According to state police, 26-year-old Oscar G. Perez-Moran was driving his 2020 Nissan Rogue west on I-610 near the Canal Blvd. exit when he left the roadway and entered the right shoulder, striking him.

The Nissan struck the rear of the Dodge before spinning and hitting the Chevrolet.

Anthony suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to LSP, the driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured and was not in the car at the time of the accident.

Perez-Moran was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.

This is an ongoing investigation.
