Student injured after incident at school

Elementary school students were hospitalized after being injured by falling lights during a graduation performance.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said paramedics were notified of the injuries to ten people, including one adult, at around 12pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics treated the patients at Barramurra Primary School on O'Keefe Drive in Oran Park near Campbelltown, about 55 kilometres southwest of Sydney.

Two students were taken to Westmead Children's Hospital and another to Campbelltown, all in a stable condition.

A police spokesman said officers were at the scene and there were no serious injuries.

A spokesman for the New South Wales Department of Education said an equipment fell during an end-of-term performance, injuring eight students and two audience members.

“The school immediately contacted the emergency services and provided first aid to the injured,” the spokesman said.

“Safe Work is investigating the incident and the school is offering support to students, staff and families.”

Performances scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the school have been cancelled while investigations into the incident continue.
