Motion to suppress evidence against man in Edgecomb child murder case denied

WISCASSET, Maine – A judge has denied a motion to suppress evidence in the trial of a man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl in Edgecomb nearly two years ago.

Tyler Witham-Jordan of Edgecomb appeared in court in Wiscasset on Tuesday after his attorney filed a motion to suppress statements he made to paramedics the day Makinzlee Handrahan died.

On Christmas morning 2022, Makinzlee's mother called 911 and said the girl was not breathing and was cold to the touch.

Makinzlee was taken to a hospital where she died.

The coroner classified Makinzlee's death as homicide.

According to court documents, the autopsy revealed that Makinzlee's body was covered in bruises and her stomach was full of blood.

Witham-Jordan was dating Makinzlee's mother at the time of the girl's death.

The judge's decision allows first responders who spoke to Witham-Jordan the day Makinzlee died to testify at the trial.
