Four men arrested for shooting Georgia man

THOMSON – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested four men in connection with the shooting death of a Georgia man.

The GBI and McDuffie County Sheriff's Office have arrested Antavious Griffin, 20, of Thomson, GA, Tyreon Mew, 18, of Thomson, GA, Jatavious Griffin, 18, of Thomson, GA, and Tony Griffin, 19, of Thomson, GA in connection with the shooting of Calvin Hart, Jr. on Friday, September 13, 2024.

On September 17, 2024, Antavious Griffin was charged with aggravated assault, premeditated murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. Antavious Griffin was taken into custody following a chase in McDuffie County, Georgia. The Thomson Police Department and the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office have filed additional charges against Antavious Griffin in connection with the chase.

Mew was a passenger in the car. Mew was arrested and charged by the Thomson Police Department and the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office.

In addition, Jatavious Griffin and Tony Griffin were charged with illegal possession of weapons and participation in criminal street gang activities.

All four men are being held in the McDuffie County Jail.

Thomson, GA (September 17, 2024) – At the request of the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating the death of 39-year-old Calvin Hart Jr. of Thomson, GA.

On Friday, September 13, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office was dispatched and responded to a shooting at a home located in the 1200 block of Royal Street, Thomson, McDuffie County, GA. Hart was discovered inside the home with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A GBI forensic pathologist will perform an autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia.

No arrests have been made so far.
