Girl found dead in Farnhamville identified; suspect charged with murder

The teenager found dead in the Farnhamville community of Calhoun County earlier this week has been identified and a suspect in the case has now been charged with murder.

17-year-old Michele “Luna” Jackson was reported missing last Sunday evening. Jackson's body was reportedly discovered in a cornfield on Monday morning. 21-year-old Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney of Gowrie was arrested in connection with the case. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, Bevers-McGivney has now been charged with first-degree murder, desecration of a corpse and concealing known whereabouts.

According to a criminal complaint, Bevers-McGivney intentionally slit the victim's throat with a knife. Bevers-McGivney is being held in the Carroll County Jail.

According to information on the Laufersweiler Palmer and Sons Funeral Home website, private funeral services for Jackson will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the funeral home in Gowrie.

A woman reportedly contacted the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office on Sunday evening to report her missing daughter. She and her other daughter were on foot searching for the missing daughter when they encountered Bevers-McGivney, who was “apparently covered in blood” and carrying the missing daughter's scooter and other belongings.

Law enforcement believes this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office was assisted by multiple agencies, including the Rockwell City and Lake City police departments, Calhoun County EMS, and the Calhoun County Emergency Management Agency.
