Teenager involved in fatal head-on collision on Minnesota highway

Lyle, MN (KROC-AM News) – A teenager was involved in a fatal head-on collision on a highway in southeastern Minnesota on Tuesday morning.

The fatal accident involved two vehicles. The State Patrol responded to the fatal accident in Mower County shortly after 10:45 a.m.

Preliminary information indicates that one of the drivers was not wearing a seatbelt, the state accident report said.

At least one dead after head-on collision between van and car on Southeast Minnesota Highway

A northbound pickup truck and a southbound car collided on Highway 218 at the intersection with 140th Street, about five miles north of the Minnesota-Iowa border community of Lyle.

The car was driven by a 17-year-old boy from Austin. The van was driven by a 25-year-old woman from Rockwell, IA.

The State Patrol has not yet announced whether one or both drivers died in the head-on collision. The names of the motorists and further information about the fatal crash are expected to be released Wednesday morning.

The Mower County Sheriff's Office, Lyle Fire and Ambulance, Austin Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and the Minnesota Department of Transportation also responded to the fatal head-on collision.
