Man charged after fatal hit-and-run accident involving pedestrian, Knoxville police say

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A man is facing charges after leaving the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash on Asheville Highway, according to Knoxville Police.

The news came Wednesday morning from KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland. Erland said officers were called to the 4100 block of the highway near Yankee Street around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, where they found a man who had been struck by a car.

That man has not yet been identified, but a suspect in the crash has. Erland said officers were instructed to look for a blue sedan, one of which was captured by a FLOCK camera nearby.

Officers then went to the address associated with the car's license plate, Erland said, on Holston Drive. There, Erland said, officers found a damaged Honda Civic.

The KPD took 28-year-old Abraham Briones into custody and charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving without a license.

The crash is still under investigation.
