Motorcyclist dies in solo accident on September 24

A 31-year-old Springfield man died Tuesday as a result of a motorcycle accident.

At approximately 2:41 a.m. on September 24, Jonathan Koontz was driving a Honda Navi motorcycle south on Hampton Avenue, crossed Central Street and continued into the parking lot of Ozarks Technical Community College.

According to Springfield police, Koontz then struck a curb in the parking lot, continued driving through the park and struck a retaining wall.

Koontz died at the scene. This was Springfield's 17th fatal car crash of 2024.
