Generics group AAM appoints John Murphy as CEO

WASHINGTON – The industry association for generics and biosimilars has elected a new leader: John Murphy.

Four sources familiar with the decision said Murphy will be named the new head of the Association for Accessible Medicines. The AAM declined to comment on the CEO choice, but a spokesman for the group said it would make an announcement later Wednesday.

Murphy was chief policy officer at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization before he was laid off along with dozens of others in a major restructuring under BIO's new CEO. Murphy spent more than seven years at BIO before leaving. He previously served as deputy general counsel at branded drug lobby PhRMA and, during a previous stint at BIO, worked in the state government relations department.
