3 injured, 67-year-old dead after accident in Botetourt County: VSP

The Virginia State Police (VSP) announced that a 67-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident in Botetourt County.

VSP said they are investigating a two-vehicle crash with one fatality.

The accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, on northbound Interstate 81 at the 160.7 mile marker in Botetourt County, VSP said.

According to VSP, a 2018 Honda CR-V was traveling south on Interstate 81 when the vehicle left the left side of the road, crossed the median, entered the northbound lanes and was struck by a 2000 Jeep Cherokee.

The Honda was driven by Dickie Donald Hall, 75, of Hickory, NC. Hall was wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The passenger, Debra Powell Hall, 67, also of Hickory, NC, was wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, VSP said.

The Jeep was driven by a 19-year-old man who was wearing a seat belt. He and a 19-year-old passenger were taken to hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, VSP said.

According to VSP, Hall was charged with reckless driving.

The accident is still being investigated, VSP said.
