Google Doodle celebrates classic popcorn with an interactive game

Any cinema experience is incomplete without popcorn, whether you watch it in the cinema or from the comfort of your own home. From a 2am snack to our cinema companion, Popcorn deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. And that's exactly what today's Google Doodle does – it celebrates popcorn.
The update is not another animated doodle, but to make things exciting, Google has added a interactive game. There is only one simple goal: “Don't get caught!” The game offers the player the option to play “alone” or with his “team”. And your competition is randomly selected players from around the world. This game made Doodles history as it “allows the highest number of players ever to participate in a game at the same time!”
Popcorn has been a staple of the movie-going experience since the 20th century. It takes just a few minutes to make, is easily affordable, and is easy to prepare – meaning vendors didn't need any really expensive equipment to prepare it. But the best part is that it isn't unhealthy like other snacks. As a whole grain, popcorn is rich in fiber, which is good for our digestion and also makes us feel full.
Popcorn was introduced in cinemas to give them an economic boost. During the Great DepressionConsumers reportedly began spending more on cheap luxury products such as movies and popcorn. Recognizing this pattern, the two sectors merged, simultaneously encouraging each other to grow. Initially, only a few vendors were allowed to sell popcorn outside the cinema, although they paid a daily fee for doing so. However, by the 1940s, cinemas began opening their own stands inside the cinema.
The classic buttered popcorn now has a few more varieties, from chocolate caramel to cheese popcorn. While some like new flavors, others prefer their popcorn the old-fashioned way. Whatever your preference, popcorn is here to stay.
