Topeka man wanted by Marshals Service arrested in Jackson County

HOLTON, Kansas (WIBW) – A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service was behind bars in the Jackson County Jail Wednesday after being arrested over the weekend on drug charges, authorities said.

The man arrested was identified as Steven Christopher Lee, 49.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, Lee was arrested following a traffic stop conducted around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of 118th Road and US-75.

Morse said a Jackson County Sheriff's deputy stopped a Ford Taurus near that location, north of Hoyt, in connection with “several suspected traffic violations.”

During the traffic stop, Morse said, a sniffer dog detected the smell of illegal drugs or narcotics in the vehicle.

A suspicious search of the vehicle uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, Morse said.

A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Lee, Morse said, and it turned out he was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service. There was no immediate word from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office on why Lee was wanted by the Marshals Service.

Lee was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail in Holton, where he was being held Thursday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Further details were not yet known late Wednesday morning.
