Police investigate reports of drugged drinks and sexual assault at University of New Hampshire – Boston News, Weather, Sports

DURHAM, NH (WHDH) – An investigation was launched Monday after two people at the University of New Hampshire reported having drugs slipped into their drinks by the same person, university police said.

The first incident occurred Thursday evening, according to police. The second incident occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 3:00 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, victims came forward on Monday and identified the same person as the person involved in both drug incidents.

Although police did not release further details about Thursday's incident, they said the incident occurred Friday night at the suspect's dorm on the University of New Hampshire's Durham campus. The suspect and the victim knew each other, police said. Police said the victim had been sexually assaulted by the suspect.

Police said both incidents were still being investigated by the University of New Hampshire police and school administration as of Wednesday afternoon.

“Survivors are never responsible for the behavior of perpetrators,” police said.

According to the university's website, the University of New Hampshire's Durham campus has over 15,000 students enrolled.

While the police investigation was ongoing, police provided safety tips to members of the campus community and urged students to be vigilant for individuals who pressure them or others to consume alcohol or other drugs.

Among other safety measures, officials reminded students to call University Police at 603-862-1212 for security escorts if they feel unsafe on campus.

“Trust your instincts,” police added. “If you feel uncomfortable or sense something is wrong, do what you can to get out of the situation or call 911 for help.”
