School deemed safe after “incident” at Bowling Green High

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky (WBKO) – An incident at Bowling Green High School caused concern Wednesday.

Shortly after noon, a youth, who is also a former BGHS student, approached the school under duress and with a knife in his hand, according to BGHS principal Kyle McGraw.

After being confronted by a staff member outside the building, the teen said someone was trying to kill him. The staff member convinced him to put down the knife and led him to a safe location that was not accessible to students or staff at the time.

The teen quickly became uncooperative when school police officer Matt Wheat attempted to arrest him. Officer Wheat was forced to use a taser to get him to comply, but was unsuccessful. Additional officers responded and arrested the student.

Principal McGraw reiterated that there is no danger to students and staff as the student is under pressure. Authorities have now deemed the school safe and there is no further cause for concern.

The incident may have been visible to students and staff.
