Delays in and out of NY Penn Station due to a minor derailment of an Amtrak train

NEW YORK (WABC) — Trains traveling to and from New York's Penn Station are experiencing delays due to reports of a minor derailment south of the station that is blocking the tracks, Amtrak said.

Both New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains appear to be affected.

Amtrak said a wheel set on train 133 derailed as it left Penn Station around 2 p.m.

“Part of the train remained on the platform so passengers could safely and quickly exit the train. Passengers will be accommodated on other trains leaving New York,” Amtrak said in a statement.

Customers affected by the delays should expect delays of at least 30 to 60 minutes.

Amtrak said customers who need to change their reservations during the revised schedules will not be charged an additional fee by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.

NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are mutually accepted by NJ Transit and private transit buses, as well as PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal, and 33rd St-NY.
