Tin Roof faces charges after security guard allegedly beats guest to death

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Tin Roof is now facing charges related to the security guard who was accused of beating a man to death as he left the bar.

The citation was issued by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) on September 19. The citation states that Tin Roof violated TABC Rule 0100-01-.03(6).

The rule states that the licensee is responsible for “law and order on licensed premises. Each licensee must conduct his business in a decent, orderly and respectable manner, observing at all times all laws of the municipality and/or district in which the licensed premises are located.”

Tin Roof will be fined $1,500. The TABC said they have 20 days to pay the fine or appeal the fine.

On February 18, former Tin Roof security guard Richard Cornelius was accused of beating Austin Turner to death outside the Midtown bar.

Turner's family said Cornelius beat him unconscious while he was waiting for his Uber. He remained in a coma for weeks until his family decided to take him off life support.

Cornelius had previously been charged with aggravated assault. At a court hearing in May, Cornelius' attorney Ben Powers argued that he acted in self-defense.

Cornelius' charges were recently upgraded to aggravated assault causing death. He was arraigned Wednesday morning. His next court date is scheduled for November 21st to appear before Judge Cheryl Blackburn.
