The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup took place on Wednesday evening to culminate in the clash between Liverpool and West Ham at Anfield – the last of the scheduled matches in the third round, which spanned two weeks.

However, one more match still needs to be played to complete the round after AFC Wimbledon's meeting with Newcastle was postponed following flooding and pitch damage.

Liverpool won last year – then under Jurgen Klopp – and the Reds also hold the record for most League Cup wins with ten victories. They will continue their attempts to defend the trophy with a fourth-round away match at Brighton, according to the draw, while Tottenham host Manchester City.

Below you will find the reactions to the draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and the Liverpool vs West Ham match:

Arne Slot goes on the offensive to show how Liverpool can remain kings of the Carabao Cup

Last season, Jürgen Klopp named Diogo Jota as the best goalscorer at Anfield. Arne Slot has yet to offer such a compliment – and, to put it more modestly, his praise for anyone has been rather measured – but he has used the Portuguese as his No. 9, a role he only filled intermittently under the German. If Slot's recommendation seemed justified after the biggest win of his brief reign, this was a night where Klopp felt vindicated too.

Jota's first brace since January showcased his predatory instincts, elusive movement and ability to make goals look easy. As Liverpool came from behind to beat West Ham United, the catalyst was the only member of Slot's regular team to start. Jota may have felt like an outsider in a second team, but he was their saviour after Jarell Quansah, continuing his unfortunate start under Slot, inadvertently put the Hammers ahead.

Ethan Nwaneri and Jack Porter take the spotlight in Arsenal's win over Bolton

Ethan Nwaneri scored twice on a historic night for Arsenal after 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter became the club's youngest player to start in their 5-1 win over Bolton.

But it was the highly-rated Nwaneri whose name took centre stage as he scored a brace before and after the break on an unforgettable night for the 17-year-old from Enfield.

Pep Guardiola thinks the Carabao Cup is a “waste of energy” – and he’s right

The most successful manager in the history of the League Cup has made a devastating admission. Manchester City will not waste their energy on the next round. And not by choice. Pep Guardiola has won the League Cup four times, putting him in the same league as Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho. His attitude reflects an insatiable will to win, but also a determination to take it all seriously.

Their four consecutive League Cup wins suggested that it was a trophy worth winning. Their willingness to take the smaller prizes has reduced the chances of others winning a trophy. Guardiola has been able to rotate, but usually with the feeling that he would find a team strong enough to progress.

And now the approach has changed. “In the next round, I'm telling you now, I'll play against the second team,” said Guardiola. “We will certainly not waste any energy in this competition.”

Final score: Liverpool – West Ham 5:1

Lopetegui looks understandably disappointed as he speaks to Sky.

“We don’t deserve this result because we have done a lot of good things,” he said.

“We played a very good first half. They scored an offside goal. We conceded the first goal.”

“After we had ten players, they scored more goals. We didn't handle the last 20 minutes well. The players tried very hard. We were in the game until that moment, despite the referee's decision and a very clear chance we had.”

“I feel sorry for our fans.”

Regarding the red card for Edson Alvarez, he says that “a second yellow card can happen,” but adds that this should have been a chance for his team to show character.

“I am very proud of the players who played until the 60th minute,” he adds.

Final score: Liverpool – West Ham 5:1

Arne Slot was the first manager to speak to Sky Sports.

He said: “When you play against a team like West Ham, who have a lot of quality, they can apply pressure. In the second half they were also dangerous from set pieces.”

“Since I've been here it's never been easy, although sometimes the result looks different, but that's probably the Premier League. Every team has quality players.

“I feel like we had the game under control for much of it. We had a lot of possession, especially in the first half.”

He adds that Cody Gakpo deserved his goal, “just like others deserved it.”

He said of the competition within the team: “I have never worked with a group of players who do not want to play. It is the same everywhere, the players like to play, especially to be part of a winning group.”
