Wheat Ridge police file no charges after fatal crash on I-70

Wheat Ridge police are not recommending charges in connection with the fatal traffic crash on Interstate 70 that left three people dead and three injured on August 15.

The investigation, which lasted more than a month, was closed Wednesday after Colorado First District Attorney's Office and police concluded that no crime had occurred.

The crash, which involved four vehicles on eastbound I-70 near Ward Road, occurred on a stretch of highway where workers were replacing a bridge as part of a $16.4 million project scheduled to be completed next month.

A semi-trailer loaded with pipes overturned and its load lost its place.
