Police are pursuing state borders following a possible incident of domestic violence

WENDOVER – Two people are in custody after police said a possible domestic violence incident led to a chase when the driver fled from police Wednesday.

Lt. Panthelakis of the West Wendover Police Department said officers received information about an “ongoing” domestic violence case involving a woman who may have been injured.

According to Sergeant Clint Fawson of the Utah Highway Patrol, officers spotted the vehicle traveling east on Interstate 80 near West Wendover.

When officers attempted to stop the driver, he fled onto I-80, according to Panthelakis.

WWPD officers began a chase that reportedly lasted 40 miles and reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.

Panthelakis reported that the driver fled into Utah around 5 p.m. and that the Utah Highway Patrol then took over the pursuit.

According to Fawson, police managed to spike the vehicle's tires twice and then, when the speed was low enough, performed a pit maneuver. The vehicle reportedly caught fire and both occupants were able to get out as flames engulfed the car around 7 p.m.

Fawson said both individuals were examined by medical personnel and there were no reports of injuries during the pursuit.

Both occupants were taken into custody unharmed.

Fawson said police believe they have a suspect and a victim, but are still investigating the involvement of both individuals.
