Accident in Chicago: 61-year-old Robert Levin dies after riding his bike on North Ashland Avenue in Lincoln Park, his family said

CHICAGO (WLS) — A family is searching for answers after a man was injured in a hit-and-run crash on the city's north side earlier this month and died a few days later when he was injured while riding his bicycle.

Robert Levin, 61, was riding his bike in Lincoln Park in early September when he was injured, according to his family. Chicago police are only calling it a death investigation.

Levin will be remembered as someone who always tried to help people. His sister Marianne Zemil has asked anyone with information to come forward.

Zemil said he was an avid cyclist and runner. In the past, Levin tutored children. A former student attended Levin's funeral.

“She said, 'He was more than a teacher to me. He changed my life,'” Zemil said.

Chicago police confirmed that an unconscious 61-year-old man was found by officers in the 2400 block of North Ashland Avenue at approximately 7:16 a.m. on September 2. However, police could not confirm information about a possible hit-and-run accident.

The man, who was found in Ashland, was unresponsive and taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said. He was later pronounced dead.

Chicago police have ruled the incident a fatality and are awaiting autopsy results.

No further information was immediately available from the Cook County Coroner's Office.
