A 48-year-old woman was killed when the scooter she was riding collided with an SUV in Holmesburg.

Officials told FOX 29 that the woman was riding what appeared to be a “motorized skateboard with handles” around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

She was approaching the busy intersection of Frankford Avenue and Academy Road when the accident happened.

Philadelphia Police Chief Scottt Small said she collided with a Kia Sorento. The Kia veered left off the southbound lane and struck the woman.

She died at the scene of the accident.

Inspector Small further said that a witness saw five or six other people at the scene of the accident travelling with her on scooters or dirt bikes, but they fled the scene.

The 20-year-old driver of the Kia remained on site and is cooperating with the police investigation.
