Fatal accident at the Menaul and tram stop, allegedly involving a motorcycle

At 6:25 p.m., officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a car crash at the intersection of Menaul and Tramway. Upon arrival, they discovered an accident scene with at least two vehicles involved.

Witnesses who drove past the accident scene reported that a car and a motorcycle were involved. One person reportedly died at the scene.

Police have closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of the tramway while they investigate. Based on mapping programs, it appears that the tramway is closed between Rover and Candelaria.

The accident scene will be closed for a period of time while police investigate. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and take an alternative route.

At 8:36 p.m., APD's PIO Francesca Perdue sent out a media release with the following content:

APD officers are currently investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a car near the intersection of Tramway Boulevard NE and Menaul Boulevard NE.

The public is asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
