Man arrested in domestic incident with shotgun

A Ruston man was arrested shortly after midnight Monday morning after confronting his girlfriend with a shotgun.

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 50-year-old Jason E. Flowers on numerous charges related to the domestic violence incident.

The victim called the sheriff's office and reported that Flowers was intoxicated and in the front yard with a shotgun. When officers arrived, Flowers was standing next to his pickup truck in the front yard of the Liner Street home.

The victim said Flowers had been drinking all day and they had been arguing about her adult son. She said they argued on the porch and she told Flowers she was going to bed.

A short time later, the victim heard Flowers operating the pump-action repeater rifle and then she heard a gunshot. Flowers came into her bedroom, screaming and banging on the door. She said she hid in the closet and called 911.

Officers found a single shotgun shell outside the home. A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was found under the truck Flowers was in when officers arrived. A loaded rifle was found in the back seat of the truck.

On the way to the detention center, Flowers allegedly threatened the transport officer. When detention center staff asked Flowers if he was suicidal, he pointed to one of the arresting officers and said, “When I was thinking about taking him.”

Based on his comment, the deputy believed that Flowers had his shotgun in his hand when he arrived and was considering shooting him.

Flowers was charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, disturbing the peace, unlawful use of a weapon and public intimidation.

Bail for all charges except the domestic violence charge was set at $7,500. Bail for the domestic assault charge was not available at press time.
