Benson: Business leaders can help combat election misinformation

As we approach the November election, just six weeks away, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is emphasizing the role business leaders can play in ensuring citizens have access to trustworthy information. She says it's everyone's responsibility.

A strong economy requires a strong democracy, and a strong democracy requires citizens to have clarity, trust in our elections and also certainty,” Benson said. “So business leaders can really play a critical role in making sure that clarity, trust and certainty are felt not only by the people in their jurisdiction and your employees and customers, but by citizens across the state of Michigan.”

Speaking at a Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce webinar on the potential impact of artificial intelligence on election information, Benson said voters should verify it before reposting or repeating potentially false information.
