Four teenagers arrested for using stolen cars and fleeing from police in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Lincoln police have arrested four teenagers after they were caught using stolen cars and trying to flee from police.

On Wednesday at 2:42 p.m., an officer spotted an unoccupied red 2015 Kia Optima in a parking lot near 14th and Rose Streets. The vehicle had been reported stolen the previous day from a home near 11th and Peach Streets. Police began surveillance of the stolen Kia.

While conducting surveillance of the area, officers observed a white 2013 Honda Pilot arrive on the scene, which had also been stolen from a home near 26th and Rathbone Streets on Tuesday. Officers observed a 16-year-old boy exit the driver's seat of the stolen Honda and another 16-year-old boy get into the driver's seat.

As the Honda left the area, officers conducted a traffic stop and stopped the vehicle near 17th and C streets. One of the 16-year-olds refused to comply, backed the vehicle, and intentionally struck an unmarked police car. None of the officers were injured.

Three 16-year-olds and 18-year-old Jasavier Eggleston were arrested. Officers discovered the keys to the stolen Kia in the pocket of one of the 16-year-olds.

During questioning at Lincoln Police Headquarters, one of the 16-year-olds attempted to escape but was quickly arrested.

Eggleston was jailed for theft of $5,000 or more.

Two of the 16-year-olds were placed in youth prison on similar charges. The third youth is also charged with two counts of theft by receiving stolen goods, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, criminal damage and escape.
