Second suspect arrested in July 2023 murder case

The first suspect was arrested by U.S. Marshals in New Iberia, Louisiana, nearly a week after the murder.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas – A 26-year-old Louisiana man was arrested for the shooting death of a man at a Port Arthur apartment complex in July 2023.

Devon Clifton Thomas, 26, of Farmerville, Louisiana, was arrested on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in connection with the July 2023 shooting death of 45-year-old Donyel Delmar.

Thomas, who was indicted in July 2024, is the second man charged with murder in the death of Delmar, who was shot and killed the night of July 8, 2023, at the Prince Hall Apartments in Port Arthur, according to docket reports.

Nearly a week after the murder, Kentrell A. Gabriel was arrested by U.S. Marshals in New Iberia, Louisiana, according to records.

According to a file report, on July 8, 2023, at around 11:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the West 14th Street apartment complex because a shooting had occurred there.

The shooting occurred because of a disturbance, but Gabriel had already left before the police arrived.
