Firearm found at Rock Springs High School, student arrested

ROCK SPRINGS – For the second time in a month, gun possession has been reported at Rock Springs High School. This time, a student was arrested for possession of a weapon on campus.

According to Rock Springs police, a teacher became aware of a weapon during a scheduled morning drill on campus and confiscated the weapon, which turned out to be a firearm. Police were still on campus participating in the drill and arrested the youth.

RSPD reports that students and staff are safe. The juvenile has been arrested and RSPD plans to file charges against the student. Due to the student's age, RSPD declined to release his identity and will not release any further information.

According to the district's firearms policy, the student faces a one-year suspension from the school district.
