Teens charged after fleeing a stolen vehicle incident in Albany

Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple, Sr. reports the arrest of two 13-year-old juveniles on charges of criminal possession of stolen property.

On Wednesday at approximately 8:06 p.m., Albany County sheriff's deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of ​​Second Avenue and Putnam Street in the City of Albany on a 2018 Kia that had been reported stolen out of Troy just an hour earlier. After officers activated the patrol car's emergency lights, the 13-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle struck two unoccupied parked vehicles and one occupied parked vehicle, causing the three occupants of the stolen vehicle to flee the scene on foot. Ultimately, two juveniles, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested and taken into custody. The two occupants of the vehicle that was struck were taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for evaluation.

The two juveniles were charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class D felony).

One of the juveniles was issued a ticket to Albany County Probation and released to a legal guardian. The second juvenile was issued a ticket for Albany County Probation and was turned over to the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office for an active Rensselaer County Family Court arrest warrant.
