Driver charged in Cape Town crash that killed a footballer and injured five teenagers

THE HIGH SCHOOL. And I heard this terrible bang and knew that a car had crashed into a tree. YOU COULD JUST HAVE THIS SOUND. The accident jolted Charles Diane Cho out of bed and quickly called 911 as he looked outside. THEN IT ALL HAPPENED. FIRE TRUCK, POLICE. EVERYTHING. According to police, it was just after two this morning when the Toyota Forerunner crashed into the tree. According to investigators, there were seven teenagers inside, all between 15 and 17 years old. SOME OF THE CHILDREN JUST GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I think they were kind of confused or something. Investigators say the driver lost control of the SUV on a curve on Carlton Drive. Six of the seven teenagers were taken to hospital, two in critical condition, including the 17-year-old who later died. They all loved the child, the nicest child you would ever want to meet. FRANCIS DELGADO worked with the late teen at an assisted living facility, where he helped serve lunch and dinner. He was just a good worker, a good boy. They all consider him his grandson, she says. The teen was a rising senior on the soccer team, a friend dropped roses while others stopped by the scene. He was a classmate. I knew him so much that the right thing was really just to come down and pay my respects for coming up now at six o'clock where the investigation into this crash is and how the community is coming together to show what's happening

The teenage driver in a June crash on Cape Cod that killed a 17-year-old boy and injured five other teenagers has been charged in the crash, the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office said. On June 25, a Toyota RAV4 carrying seven teenagers crashed into a tree near Swain Circle after the driver lost control, Mashpee police said. A 17-year-old Mashpee boy died, another teenager suffered life-threatening injuries and four others suffered less serious injuries, officials said. All of the teens were between the ages of 15 and 17 and were from Mashpee and Falmouth, police said. The driver, Jack Burns, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle resulting in death, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon likely to result in serious bodily injury. He will be arraigned in Falmouth Juvenile Court. The teenager who died played on the high school football team and worked at an assisted living facility.
