MCAS Miramar Air Show returns to San Diego skies – NBC 7 San Diego

America's largest military air show is flying back to our backyard!

The Miramar Air Show takes place the entire weekend of September 27-29 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and offers free solo aerial performances, military demonstration teams, vintage aircraft, warbirds and more to the public.

In addition to the shows, climb into one of the many simulators and experience the feeling of flying yourself on the airline and in the Innovation Tech Expo.

Admission, parking and overhead seating are free. No tickets are required for entry. If you are a big fan and want to enhance your air show experience, check out preferred ticket options here such as: B. preferred seating with the best view or designated family-friendly zones.

Military discounts are available for Friday and must be purchased at MCAS Miramar ITT with a valid military ID.

The documentary takes viewers into the cockpit of the Navy's elite fighter pilot squadron. NBC 7's Audra Stafford has details.

Aerobatic pilot Vicky Benzing

At this special air show, spectators can witness history. According to the California Aeronautical University, not many warbirds fly anymore, and even fewer are flown by a female aerobatic pilot.

For the first time at the MCAS Miramar Air Show, renowned aerobatic pilot Vicky Benzing will perform a flight demonstration in a recently renovated P-51 Air Racer named “Plum Crazy.”

Known for her amazing aerobatic skills, Aviator Benzing was named the fastest woman of all time at the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada.

Benzing has a passion for all things air related.

She is a pilot, skydiver, aerobatic artist and air racer with more than 10,000 flight hours. She also holds a PhD in chemistry from UC Berkeley.

Watch Benzing portray her Boeing Stearman in the Netflix documentary “Mercury 13,” which tells the story of women who fought for gender equality alongside male astronauts.
