Jimmy Fallon and Keith Urban pulled this prank on Nicole Kidman at the Met Gala

Jimmy Fallon famously blew his chance at a date with Nicole Kidman, but at least he got to hold her hand.

Kidman's husband, music star Keith Urban, opened up on “The Tonight Show” on Sept. 24 about how he teamed up with Fallon to prank the “The Perfect Couple” star at the Met Gala in May.

“I was sitting next to Nic, she had her hand on mine and she was talking to someone,” Urban said. “And Jimmy came over and was talking to me, and I said, 'Jump in the seat, Jimmy, and just slide your hand under mine so it's holding your hand. She won't know.'”

Urban said Kidman was chatting with someone, so the Oscar winner wasn't paying attention when they made the switch.

“So Jimmy slides in, so Nic has his hand like this,” Urban said as Fallon placed his hand on top of his. “It’s Nic and him.”

Urban said he then walked around the table and waved at Kidman, which made her wonder who she was holding hands with.

“And she was like, 'What's going on?!'” Fallon said, mimicking Kidman, who recoiled. “She says, ‘What?! Jimmy, don't do that!'”

Kidman shared on “The Tonight Show” in 2015 that she and Fallon almost dated back in 2005, when they were both single. Fallon assumed they were meeting to discuss a role in Kidman's film Bewitched, while Kidman thought maybe a date was on the horizon.

Then Fallon missed his chance.

“You’re there with a baseball cap on…and you wouldn’t talk,” she told him. “You didn’t say anything… and then you put on a video game or something. I think, 'This is so bad.'”

“I had no idea whatsoever!” said a distraught Fallon.

This time it was Kidman who didn't notice when Fallon swapped places with Urban at the Met Gala.

“I just love what you did,” he told Urban. “That was great fun.”
