Man charged with robbery in Sulfur, Lake Charles

SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) – A Lake Charles man is accused of robbing stores in Sulfur and Lake Charles this week.

On Tuesday, September 24, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) officers were dispatched to a Hood Road business to investigate an armed robbery at approximately 10 p.m.

Investigators learned that the suspect entered the store armed and demanded money from the clerk, according to CPSO Public Information Officer Kayla Vincent. The suspect reportedly fled on foot after stealing cash and e-cigarettes.

During the investigation, investigators discovered that another similar robbery occurred in Lake Charles. The second robbery is currently under investigation by the Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD).

LCPD detectives identified Corey D. Givens, 23, of Lake Charles, as a possible suspect.

Givens was located by CPSO and LCPD at a local hotel on Wednesday. He was found in possession of items linking him to the Hood Road robbery, Vincent said.

Givens, who also faces additional charges from the LCPD, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and escape.

Bail was set at $95,000.
