“Suns sign Frank Kaminsky to camp deal”

The Suns are ready to bring back the free agent center Frank Kaminskytweets his agency Priority Sports. According to Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports (Twitter link), it is a training camp deal.

The exact terms of the agreement have yet to be announced, but it is likely that it will contain at least the text of Exhibit 9 and possibly Exhibit 10.

The 7-foot Wisconsin alum, a former 2015 lottery pick, enjoyed an eight-year NBA tenure before heading overseas in 2023-24.

Kaminsky played for the Hornets from 2015 to 2019 before signing with the Suns as a free agent in 2019 to 2020. He played three seasons with Phoenix.

In 95 contests with the Suns (26 starts), the former All-American first teamer averaged 8.2 points on .468/.344/.682 shooting splits along with 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 dimes.

Kaminsky split his final NBA stay (for now) in 2022/23 between the Hawks and the Rockets. Kaminsky was a bench reserve player during his tenure with Atlanta and Houston, averaging just 2.5 points on a .492/.394/.875 slash line, plus 1.4 rebounds and 0 in 36 games combined .8 dimes.

The 31-year-old spent the 2023/24 season with Serbian club Partizan Belgrade.

The Suns still have a hole in their standard 15-man roster, so if Kaminsky impresses, he could earn a chance.

Athletic long-time all-stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker And Bradley BealPhoenix finished last year with a 49-33 record but was wiped out by the Timberwolves in a masterful first-round playoff win. Team President James Jones responded by firing the head coach Frank Vogel and his team after just one season and replaced him with the former head coach of the Bucks champions Mike Budenholzer. The Suns also brought in a point guard Tyus Jones to a theft of a veteran's minimum offer. He is expected to be in the starting XI, which will likely see him start small up front Grayson Allen to the bank.

Phoenix could use a player with Kaminsky's sharpshooting range to support the starting center Jusuf Nurkic and his newly signed replacement, Mason Plumlee. It remains to be seen whether Kaminsky's defensive deficiencies could prevent the Suns from bringing him back.
