Fatal crash in Gastonia, North Carolina | Local News

GASTONIA, N.C. – A fatal crash shut down a stretch of road in Gastonia Thursday afternoon.

Gastonia police said it happened along Union Road around 12:30 p.m. The accident caused a portion of the roadway stretching from Niblick Drive to East Hudson Boulevard to be temporarily closed.

Police later confirmed two cars were involved. A car driven by 58-year-old James Auten of Forest City crossed the center line and struck the other car. According to officials, Auten died.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
