Community invited to take action in the fight against Alzheimer's

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – This Saturday, people will join the fight against Alzheimer's disease when the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's kicks off in Topeka.

Margaret Haden visited Eye in northeast Kansas to share why the hike is so important.

Margaret said the walk raises money and awareness for a breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimer's and other dementias. A common place on the walks are flowers, which symbolize the commitment of each individual.

Topeka's walk will take place on Saturday, September 28th at the Lake Shawnee Shelter House #1. The walking site opens at 8:30 a.m., the ceremony takes place at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins immediately afterward. David Oliver of 13 NEWS will host the event.

Another walk will take place Sept. 28 at the Lyon Co. Fairgrounds in Emporia, with Manhattan's walk scheduled for Oct. 5 at City Park.

Information about the hikes, registration or donations can be found at alz.org/hoawalk.
