The House Judiciary is investigating the Justice Department over its release of a Routh manifesto offering a $150,000 bounty on Trump's head

EXCLUSIVE: The House Judiciary Committee is investigating the Justice Department after it released the manifesto of the suspect charged in the attempted assassination of former President Trump, warning that the move could encourage potential copycats and “cause additional harm.” .

Fox News Digital obtained a letter that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday after the Justice Department released Ryan Routh's letter, or manifesto, outlining his plans to assassinate Trump explained.

Routh was arrested after a Secret Service agent saw his rifle go through a chain-link fence at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, while the former president was playing golf.

The DOJ released Routh's letter “to the world” in a court filing this week, in which he said his attempt was “an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.” Routh offered $150,000 to someone who could “finish the job” if he failed.

The letter was released as evidence in a Justice Department arrest warrant to ensure Routh's detention.

“During your tenure as Attorney General, the Department has generally refused to release details of so-called 'manifestos' written by the perpetrators of high-profile crimes,” Jordan wrote. “But earlier this week, the Department released a letter in a public court filing in which the man who attempted to assassinate President Donald J. Trump in Florida on September 15, 2024, placed a $150,000 bounty on President Trump’s head.”

Jordan warned that the decision to publish this manifesto “seems to be at odds with the Department's stated policy that 'public access to legacy tokens', better known as manifestos, 'will lead to further attacks' from 'Spark' will contribute.”[ing] “Incredibly intense interest and study” of potential copycat offenders and providing a blueprint for future attackers.”

“The Department’s decision to transfer the attempted assassin’s bounty to President Trump – while at the same time the Department is aggressively and unconstitutionally pursuing President Trump – raises significant concerns that the Department could cause additional harm,” Jordan wrote.

Jordan is now calling on the Justice Department to turn over all documents and communications related to the FBI's May 2023 “Protection of Legacy Tokens” memo, as well as all documents related to the release of the would-be assassin's letter to The World “ refer to or are related to it.

Jordan requested these documents by October 9th at 5 p.m

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Routh, 58, was charged by the Justice Department with attempting to assassinate Trump, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Ruth was also charged federal charges of possessing a weapon with a crossed-out number and illegal possession of a firearm as a felon, although more serious charges are likely pending. The weapon had one cartridge in the chamber and was loaded with a total of 11 cartridges.

Routh is the second would-be assassin to attempt to take Trump's life this year.

“The Department of Justice is committed to using the full force of our agencies to thoroughly investigate every tip and ensure accountability in this matter,” Garland said Wednesday. “Our country has experienced two assassination attempts against the former president in the last three months alone.”

Garland added: “This is despicable.”
