Suspected fentanyl dealer arrested in connection with major Whatcom County Sheriff's Office investigation

WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another suspected fentanyl dealer has been arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into a drug trafficking ring operating in Whatcom County.

The Whatcom County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday, September 26, that it has arrested 28-year-old Jamie Lopez Laz Cano for his alleged role in the organization.

The Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on Sept. 25 at a residence in Bellingham that led to the arrest. Police found around 3.5 pounds. of suspected fentanyl powder that they believe was intended for resale.

They also found large amounts of money transfer receipts that indicate money laundering.

Lopez Laz Cano was booked into the Whatcom County Jail later in the day and remains there without bail.

It's the latest arrest in the investigation into a Mexico-based drug distribution ring believed to operate in Whatcom County. The sheriff's office arrested five people in August who were also suspected of being members of the organization.

During this investigation, over 70 pounds of suspected drugs and over $60,000 in suspected drug proceeds were seized.
