Two dead after murder-suicide in Picayune hospital parking lot

PICAYUNE, Miss. (WLOX) – A mother and daughter died following a murder-suicide in Picayune on Thursday, according to Picayune police.

Officials say 61-year-old Helena Malone shot her mother, 79-year-old Helen Plaisance, in a car in the parking lot of Highland Community Hospital near the emergency room at about 2:53 p.m. After Malone fired the shots, he called the police.

Before officers arrived, Malone shot himself. Emergency room staff immediately rushed both Malone and Plaisance to the emergency room, but both died from their injuries.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the shooting. According to police, all shots were fired inside the vehicle and the weapon was recovered.
