Suspected child predator arrested in North Bay, weapons cache seized

MILL VALLEY – A Mill Valley man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of multiple weapons offenses after child cybercriminals from another county tipped off the sheriff's office.

According to the Marin County Sheriff's Office, Roseville Police Department officers conducted a four-day undercover operation in Placer County to catch Internet child predators.

After the operation, a Roseville detective contacted the Marin Sheriff's Office about a suspect who lived in an unincorporated area of ​​Mill Valley.

Roseville investigators requested assistance in verifying that the suspect lived at the home they believed he lived and in serving the warrant.

The suspect was arrested on his way to work on Thursday morning, the sheriff's office said. A search of the suspect's home and vehicle was conducted and officers reportedly recovered 11 unregistered firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition.

As a convicted felon, the suspect is prohibited from possessing weapons or ammunition.

According to law enforcement, one of the firearms recovered was an AR-15 without a serial number that was made from an 80 percent lower frame.

The 37-year-old suspect was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of an unregistered assault weapon and possession of a firearm without a serial number.

According to prison records, the suspect was also arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old, arranging to meet a minor for sex, and sending harmful messages to seduce a minor.

Bail on the Roseville warrant is $500,000 and Marin County has set an additional $50,000 bond.
