Chinese consulate helping Hong Kongers banned from leaving South Korea's Jeju Island

Chinese consular officials have stepped in to help a Hong Kong woman who was refused entry South Koreahas been on Jeju Island for more than two months after he was arrested for taking photos in a traditional bathhouse.

The 67-year-old woman was visiting the western part of the popular holiday island on July 7 as part of a package holiday with three friends when the incident occurred, her husband told The Post on Thursday.

A Hong Kong immigration spokesman said the Chinese consulate on the island met the woman to provide her with assistance, including obtaining updates on the case from local authorities and requesting expedited processing times.

He said the department would continue to maintain close contact with the woman, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Commissioner's Office in Hong Kong and the consulate on Jeju Island.

Residents were also reminded to abide by local laws and understand local customs when traveling.
