NRL news: Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam's manager reacts during investigation into Bali incident

The manager of Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam has spoken out after it was announced on Friday that the NRL is investigating an alleged incident involving Brisbane Broncos players in Bali. The Broncos were rocked by more drama on Friday, just hours after the club announced the departure of coach Kevin Walters with immediate effect.

The NRL Integrity Unit has reportedly launched an investigation into an alleged incident involving Walsh and Mam, in which a third party's phone was said to have been damaged. The Broncos players are holidaying in Bali after finishing 12th and missing the NRL finals this year. The NRL has reportedly received a complaint about Walsh and Mam's behavior and the integrity unit is now investigating.

The complaint is said to relate to damage caused to a cell phone. One person reportedly tried to take a selfie with Walsh when Mam became upset about it.

The Courier mail reported that the Broncos are aware of the matter and have learned that the players allegedly responded to being filmed while on vacation. The same report said the players replaced the damaged phone and paid for a new one.

But Nash Dawson, Walsh and Mam's manager, now claims the damage to the phone was caused by an accident. “The damaged phone was simply an accident in a crowded nightclub in Bali,” he said loudly Courier mail. “One person’s phone was dropped and damaged. This person asked the player to pay for the damage and the player has already paid it.”

Earlier this year, Walsh used social media to urge fans to be more respectful when treating players. “If you are over 10 years old, and especially if you are a fully grown adult, and don't use your manners when asking for a photo, don't be shocked if you get a no,” he wrote on Instagram.

“At the end of the day we are human, just (don’t) expect these things!! I love taking photos and chatting with everyone, but if you just shove a phone in my face and demand a photo, I won't want to do that!! “Please and thank you” goes a long way! I wish you a wonderful day.”

The alleged incident comes at the worst possible time for the Broncos, who are looking for a new head coach. The club announced this on Thursday evening Walters would relinquish the role he has held since 2021after missing the finals in three of four seasons as coach.

“I’m really proud that the club wasn’t in great shape when I arrived. “I feel like myself, along with a lot of other good staff and people here, have left my mark on the club,” Walters said while leading the media on Friday.

“I would like to thank the original owners of the club, Barry, Paul, Steve and Gary, for establishing the club. Probably the proudest moment was the grand finale last year, which was attended by my son and my whole family. I want to say thank you.” My family has been really great to me and I just want to thank them.

CEO Dave Donaghy said: “The reality for us is that as an organisation, as a club, we recognize that we can be better. We can do better. Kev wears his heart on his sleeve and he's done an incredible job over the last four years, but since we've had time to digest and process the season, look at the plans for the future, we're both at the “I came to the realization that it was time to part ways and that Kev's time as head coach was over.”
