Newton School Superintendent Tom Messenger says the announcement of charges against a student earlier this week over an alleged threat against the district underscores the importance of parents using the ParentSquare app. So earlier this week, the district announced that charges had been filed against a student accused of making a threatening comment to a particular employee. Messenger says the incident was immediately reported to police and was unrelated to the recent social media threats being investigated. In the ParentSquare announcement, Newton's superintendent also emphasized that “threatening comments and behavior are unacceptable and will be addressed with the highest priority.” He also encouraged anyone if they see or hear anything disturbing to report it to the Newton Police Department or the Safe+Sound Iowa School Threat Reporting Tool.
